STEREO

Conceived as a playful stack of terraces, this building was intended to provide a vibrant new type of living within the Newcastle city centre. On the ground floor would be communal spaces with a bar, cafe, and a seating area with art exhibitions and installations. Each apartment above would benefit from open balconies with views over the Tyne and it's wonderful bridges spanning over to Gateshead.

The site is an island surrounded by busy roads but has a powerful identity due to its topography and historical importance of the club that was once one of Newcastle's busiest. The city doesn't lack bravery when creating new ways of doing things and this project was very much driven by a similar ambition for renaissance.
