Beijing Central Operal House was a limited competition.

The brief stated a traditional western Opera House, located in the Central Beijing business district and required a 1350 seat auditorium with requisite backstage facilities, a multi purpose hall for 650 seats, capable of putting on chamber orchestra performances and a number of rehearsal rooms for all artistic disciplines such as piano, dance, band and orchestral practice.

The Director of the Opera House was particularly interested in the traditional Opera House and its neo-classical architecture, themes carried forwards throughout the design process.

SHH worked in collaboration with Pansolution and Tsinghua University.
